Podcasting with the Mayor : Lambs, green initiatives, youth clubs and Leadership!

Seal Primary's Head Boy and Head Girl welcome the Mayor of Sevenoaks

Last week, Seal CE Primary School in Sevenoaks buzzed with excitement as the Mayor of Sevenoaks, Councillor Tony Clayton, paid a special visit. The occasion? An exclusive interview with Head Boy Bobby and Head Girl Adelie for the next episode of ‘Our School Speaks’, the school's popular monthly podcast.

Each episode sees Bobby and Adelie, our dynamic young presenters, uncover fascinating stories from local personalities. Meeting the Mayor was a highlight as not only did they get to conduct a memorable interview, but they also proudly gave Councillor Clayton a tour of the school. The visit ended with a delightful trip to the school farm, where everyone enjoyed cuddles with the adorable newborn lambs.

Armed with thoughtful questions, Bobby and Adelie spent over an hour uncovering what it truly means to be a Mayor - how to become one, the unique causes and charities they champion, and the lasting impact they can have in just a single year. The Mayor’s inspiring answers left everyone with a deeper appreciation for people who are committed to public service.

We also learned about his passion for green initiatives, his campaign to get 20 mph limits outside all schools in Sevenoaks, the town’s electric bus, and his mission to get people to leave their cars at home and enjoy the benefits of cycling and walking.

On visiting the school, the Mayor said, “Being interviewed by Seal school students Bobby and Adelie for their school podcast. They asked some tough questions about what councillors do in our local community, and didn’t let me get away with any waffle. After the grilling came a trip round Seal School Farm, to see a range of pigs, hens, goats, lots of lambs and a good selection of rabbits, guinea pigs and other animals. 

Seal is a seriously green school, and is cultivating not only food, but also the future Victoria Derbyshire and Nick Robinson!"
