Celebrating a Successful Country Show: A Day of Fun and Learning at Our Farm!
BackIt was fantastic to see so many people enjoying themselves at our annual Country Show on Saturday, July 5th. Our farm team and children organised the event, but since this is such a special occasion for us, everyone at the school, along with our volunteers, participated to ensure the day was a success.
Our Year 5 students opened the Show with a demonstration of their sheep-handling skills, followed by the Year 4 children. They explained their knowledge of the sheep’s anatomy, their breed, and how to walk their sheep around the ring confidently. This can sometimes be quite tricky, especially when there are tasty grasses and treats!
In the maze, our Year 3 children showcased examples of enrichment, including puzzle feeders that encourage animals to forage for food, as well as various structures designed to enhance habitats. There were also demonstrations on beekeeping, tractor rides, a hook-a-duck game, a story about Mr Gippy (our therapy pig) and his survival, and how he became a therapy pig, as well as a busy arts and crafts stand. To close the Country Show, we had the eagerly anticipated pig race!
As we know, animals can be unpredictable, and this year, our micropigs, Dave, Harry Trotter, Gippy, and Annabelle, required quite a bit of coaxing to get off the starting line for the annual pig race. However, with some assistance from our farm manager, Sara, and lots of enthusiastic encouragement from the spectators, they eventually trotted off. After three laps, Mr. Gippy was declared the Fastest Seal Farm Pig of the Year!
Thank you to everyone who made this day special, including our PTA for their refreshments stall, those who contributed to the raffle and purchased tickets, our lovely farm animals, and everyone who attended. Here’s to Summer 2026!
